Advocates marched to Sen. Charles Schumer’s Peekskill office Wednesday in opposition of the leaked Supreme Court draft that would overturn the Roe v. Wade abortion ruling.
More than 150 people marched from Peekskill City Court to Schumer's office to demand immediate action be taken against the potential decision.
Democratic lawmakers are trying to find a way to keep abortion access nationwide no matter what the court decides. They're calling for a new Senate vote on the Women's Health Protection Act.
The act passed the House last year, but it was short of the votes needed in the Senate. Lawmakers say Schumer is pushing for another vote.
"Chuck's working on that, and I've talked to him about it and he's putting together a measure that will put into law the protections that have been in place for 50 years under Roe v Wade. Basically, that is what we're trying to achieve,” said Illinois Sen. Dick Durbin.
State Sen. Allesandra Biagi is working with Assemblyman Chris Burdick on their own legislation statewide to protect people from other states coming to New York for an abortion or gender transition.
