A fire destroyed a first-floor apartment and damaged another above it in Flatbush Monday afternoon.
The incident occurred at 2023 Caton St. at around 12 p.m.
Tenants say they attempted to evacuate the building through the fire escape, but the ladder became stuck.
Officials say one person was treated at the scene for minor smoke inhalation.
News 12 reached out to the building's management company about the fire escape. They have not yet responded.
Investigators are attempting to determine what sparked the flames.
