In response to the deadly Atlanta shootings, the Asian American Federation held a peace vigil Friday for victims of Asian hate in Union Square.
The Asian American Federation says they are gutted by the senseless deaths of the eight people killed at three Atlanta-area massage businesses. Six of the victims were Asian American.
The vigil comes at a time when hate crimes against Asian Americans are up in the city, according to the NYPD.
Elected officials promised more funds and resources to strengthen the Asian community.
Public Advocate Jumaane Williams says the Atlanta shootings are the inevitable conclusion of white supremacy and racism.
