The Hudson County Prosecutor's
Office Homicide Unit and the Bayonne Police Department are probing the fatal
shooting of a man.
The shooting happened around 4:30
a.m. in the area of Avenue A and West 21st Street.
"It happened literally right
here,” says Saavgel Victoria. “I live right here so it's kind of
shocking."
Saavgel was one of the few
neighbors awake this morning to hear the gunshots. News 12 is hearing the
victim may have been shot while he was in his car next to a female passenger
who was not shot.
"It happened right after the
shots - the shots, there were like 10 times and I heard her screaming,” says
Victoria.
Victoria has been living in the
Avenue A neighborhood for about two years, saying neighbors typically keep to
themselves.
"This is a very safe
neighborhood, I like it,” says Victoria. “I don't hear about shootings in this
neighborhood, not a lot. Now looking at where it happened, I was like. I'm
struck. I'm surprised."
