Councilman Charles Barron is demanding transparency as the Department of Education and NYPD probe a noose sent to Canarsie High School's principal.
Police said Monday they are investigating the case after Tyona Washington reported receiving the small noose along with a letter filled with anti-black remarks.
Barron suggested Wednesday that the DOE is trying to cover up the issue after Washington was a no-show at a joint press conference to address the incident.
Washington replaced popular Principal David Harris at the beginning of the school year after his ouster. However, police said they have no evidence that suggests Harris' supporters sent the noose.
The incident is the latest in a string of nooses found across New York. No arrests have been made in any of the cases.
