Bed-Stuy community feels slighted by NYPD commissioner
Community leaders in Bedford-Stuyvesant are taking issue with NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly's response after a toddler was wounded during a weekend shooting. Kelly said he was disappointed that local elected officials have not expressed the proper outrage warranted by the incident, and that more needs to be done to reduce the number of black and Latino gunfire deaths. The comments come in the wake of a shooting that injured 3-year-old Isaiah Rivera near the Roosevelt Houses Sunday afternoon. Councilwoman Letitia James (WF-District 35) said Kelly is just embarrassed by the failure of the stop-and-frisk program, and blames his lack of support during anti-violence rallies.
