Excellence Charter School is the only public, all-boys, elementary charter school in Brooklyn. School officials say they are making sure their boys make the grade after recent reports suggest that boys are falling behind girls in all grade levels. Approximately 98 percent of Excellence?s students are African-American and Latino.
The school?s principal says what makes the school different is students are learning values and academics while still having fun. Excellence Charter School has been open for two years and has students in kindergarten through second grade.
Students can apply to the school through a lottery.
