Some Bensonhurst business owners say they are losing money while the city?s Department of Transportation (DOT) works on a reconstruction project.
The DOT is working on a year-long reconstruction project of the 20th Avenue Bridge between 62nd and 65th streets. DOT officials say the project is needed because the bridge is old and has deteriorated.
One business owner, who has been open for a year, says he may be forced to close his doors because he can?t make his rent payments. The owners say there is not much foot traffic in the area because metered parking is restricted from 62nd Street through 65th Street. DOT officials say they are aware businesses may be affected by the project and will try to keep the impacts to a minimum.
