Loyal customers are getting ready to say goodbye to a beloved Italian record store in Bensonhurst.
SAS Italian Records is closing its doors for good after nearly six decades.
Silvana Conte's parents opened the store in 1967 after moving from Italy, selling music records, household items and other novelties from back home. But after Conte's mother recently died, she says she couldn't run the store alone. So, she made the difficult decision to close up shop.
"It’s just like my life. I grew up in here," said Conte. "It represents my father. It represents my mom. And they’re gone and this is gone now, too."
Many customers said they have been coming to the shop since they were kids.
"My parents would take me to the café next door," said Liz Belluomo, "and then we come here and look at all the cassettes and CDs and all the Italian memorabilia. And sad to see it go."
The store will stay open until everything is sold.
