An upstate gunman shot and killed at least 13 people at an immigrant center Friday, and then killed himself, according to police.
Jiverly Voong, 42, of Johnson City, walked into the American Civic Association in Binghamton around 10:30 a.m. and took at least 41 people hostage, police say.
Voong blocked the back door with his car, and then walked in the front door while firing, according to police.
Gov. David Paterson asked for a moment of silence and says his prayers are with the city of Binghamton and the families of the victims.
"Lives have been lost. There's absolutely no reason for this kind of shooting and brutal attack of innocent people," Paterson says.
Five other victims are being treated at local hospitals, authorities say.
