Red Hook residents are again voicing their displeasure over plans by a retail superstore to move into the neighborhood.
The BJ's Wholesale Club chain is in talks to open a store adjacent to an Ikea that opened during the summer. Some Red Hook residents oppose the idea, arguing that the traffic around both stores could overwhelm the area.
Residents say that with no subway service nearby, traveling to the stores by public transportation is not an option.
A lawsuit filed by local activists against IKEA looked to block it from moving into Red Hook. It was later dismissed in 2005, paving the way for the store to open.
