Crowds cheered on nearly 38,000 runners as they made their way through Brooklyn for the ING New York City Marathon Sunday.
Men and women from 100 countries and all 50 states participated.
The runners raced up through the borough from Staten Island, hitting mile markers along the way. The first to hit the eight-mile mark in downtown Brooklyn were hand cyclists and disabled athletes.
Volunteers were hard at work setting up cups of water long before the runners hit Fourth Avenue.
In Clinton Hill, the Emmanuel Baptist Church choir sent runners a song of hope and inspiration.
Runners Paula Radcliffe, of Britain, and Gete Wami, of Ethiopia, passed the rest to come out in front with Radcliffe ultimately winning the women?s race. It was Radcliffe?s second New York City Marathon win.
Martin Lel, of Kenya, took the men?s title.
