Some Sept. 11 first responders from Brooklyn are getting health assistance to relieve symptoms from what they call toxic dust at ground zero.
A retired NYPD sergeant and two volunteers from Brooklyn are involved in the New York Rescue Workers Detoxification Project, which emphasizes exercise and sauna sessions to sweat out lingering toxins.
The three are just some of those that say they have fallen ill because of the dust breathed in at the site of the attacks. They say they have been to hospitals, but the medical treatment did not improve their health.
They say the treatments through the detox program brought improvement almost immediately, physically and emotionally.
Directors of the program say it has treated at least 220 Brooklyn residents.
