The suspect at the center of a body parts-for-sale scandal involving Brooklyn and other city funeral homes will remain free on bail.A judge made the decision Tuesday at a bail hearing in downtown Brooklyn. The district attorney had raised concerns that the $1.5 million bail for Michael Mastromarino, the alleged mastermind of the scam, has yet to be secured. The DA said the bail bonds company never put leans on the three homes that were offered as collateral. Mastromarino?s attorney argued a paperwork mix-up was to blame. The defense said the corrected paperwork has been filed.
Mastromarino and three other men allegedly paid off funeral homes to steal body parts without the consent of family members. Officials say the sometimes diseased tissues were eventually transplanted into unsuspecting patients.Related Information
