Blend: Coffee + CoWork is giving back to local hospitals as the coronavirus pandemic continues to see a surge in New York City.
Justin Mattera says that when non-essential businesses were ordered to close, his coffee shop took a hit.
“We started a campaign just being transparent telling everybody what we needed to stay open,” said Mattera.
However, it was Mattera’s brother who gave a generous donation and asked for it to be used for a good cause.

“My older brother, he actually donated and said if you can send some coffee on my behalf to a hospital I would love that,” said Mattera.
Coffee cups have written messages and bible verses as a source of inspiration and Mattera tells News 12 the response has been incredible.
He says he started to ask others on social media to donate and that people have been chipping in since.
“As of this morning we were a little over $4,000,” said Mattera.
Mattera says he will continue to give free coffee to local hospitals in the area as donations continue to come in.
