Mayor Michael Bloomberg gave a positive progress report on the city?s schools Sunday during services at Crossroads Tabernacle.
Bloomberg cited a 20 percent increase in high school graduates as well as a 20 percent increase in standardized test scores.
?There are people here who say we're not making progress,? said Bloomberg. ?We are the poster child for improvement in a school system across the country and across the world.?
Carmen Ocasio, a parent who was attended the service, was glad to have heard the mayor?s speech.
?Education should be everyone's priority, whether you have children or not,? she says. ?It should be everyone's number one [concern].?
Bloomberg reiterated the city?s need to receive more funding, though he says the new city budget allocates millions of dollars more for education.
