A Brooklyn bodega owner will appear in court this week for allegedly hitting a teen with a hammer after a group of teens injured the store clerks.
Salah Ahmed, who is related to Mohammed Monsoor Abuzaid, the Crown Heights bodega owner murdered inside his store less than a month ago, was arrested last year. Ahmed's lawyer, Gary Conroy, says he will fight for his client, but also for the safety of all bodega workers in light of the recent murders.
Ahmed says he hit 15-year-old Bunkless Bovian in self-defense after the teen attacked the bodega clerks along with a group of friends. Bovian says he was trying to break up a fight inside the store when Ahmed struck him with a hammer.
If convicted, Ahmed faces up to 25 years in prison.
