The streets of Borough Park are quiet Wednesday after a 75-year-old man?s arrest sparked demonstrations.
Hundreds of Jewish residents poured into the streets Tuesday night to protest the alleged mistreatment of Arthur Schick during a traffic stop. Police say Schick was pulled over for talking on his cell phone while driving. They say the man refused to take his ticket and resisted arrest. Witnesses say police pushed Schick and physically manhandled him.
Some residents say Schick is hard of hearing and may not have understood the officers. However, when two men tried to help Schick police arrested them. Police also used riot gear to break up the demonstrators.
Meanwhile, Schick was taken to a police station and later released.
