Between 8 and 14" of snow fell across the city since Sunday morning. Central Park saw records smashed for most snowfall on January 25th, beating the previous 10.0" (set in 1905) with a 11.4" new record.
Records were also broken at JFK and La Guardia airports. Make sure that all of the snow and ice is cleared off of your car and sidewalk, the temperatures are not going to be melting any of it away any time soon.
A prolonged period of extreme cold is expected this week. Temperatures will struggle to get into the teens and 20s, with lows in the single digits and teens feeling closer to zero. Dangerous cold arrives overnight with temperatures feeling around and below zero. This will make for a bitingly cold morning commute to work on Tuesday.
The snow from this weekend will stick around all week with little to no melting despite the sunshine. Unfortunately, the extreme cold will continue into the first week of February allowing piles and chunks of snow to continue into next month as well.
