It was another unseasonably warm day across NYC today with temperatures well up into the 60s across most of the area, although it remained in the 50s along coastal communities with a south wind off a chilly ocean or sound. Big changes are on the way starting tonight
Late Today into Tonight: Changes arrive later today as a strong weather system moves toward the city. Showers could begin later this evening, with periods of rain overnight. There is also the chance of a thunderstorm. If you’re heading out tonight, bring rain gear and expect wet roads and slower travel.
Thursday: The cold front moves through early in the morning. Temperatures will start the day mild but will drop quickly as colder air moves in. Rain may briefly mix with or change to wet snow showers before ending during the afternoon. Little to no accumulation is expected in New York City, but it will feel much cooler by the evening, with temperatures falling into the 30s.
Looking Ahead: Friday could bring a few scattered rain showers and breezy conditions, followed by a cooler but dry Saturday. Another stronger storm system may arrive Sunday into Monday, bringing steady rain and gusty winds to the New York City area. Most of that event looks like rain, but a brief mix with snow is possible at the very beginning or end of the storm.
Stay weather aware, keep an umbrella handy, and be prepared for temperatures to swing quickly from warm to chilly over the next couple of days.
