Bronx bakery increasing prices; owners say they're spending more on ingredients

The holy holidays may cost you more this time of year.
Lilka Adams, co-owner of Llyod’s Carrot Cake in Fieldston, said her family's bakery business has been forced to raise prices across the board - $5 to $10 more depending on the item and size.
“Just [because of] overall inflation, and it had gone down for a little,” Adams said. “But the rise that happened so quickly, in such a short period of time, has had quite an effect.”
Adams said they’re spending more on ingredients, like cream cheese, walnuts and eggs.
She said one box of 30 dozen eggs used to run between $50 and $70, then it jumped up.
“Towards the end of last year, early this year the highest we had was $250 for just one box,” Adams said.
They refuse to substitute or cut ingredients from their family recipes, which Adams said is all made from scratch.
“We’re not here to price gauge,” Adams said. “This is a business that supports the community.”
The recent announcement from Llyod’s Carrot Cake sprouted support from community members, who said they’re seeing prices skyrocket in just about everything else.
“I do care about the quality, but I guess I can’t have it both ways, right,” said customer Dale Scotland.
“I like the cakes, so it’s good,” said another customer.
