Police say a Bronx box truck driver was arrested for allegedly causing the death of a Brooklyn man following a hit-and-run in Brooklyn Heights.
Randy Pimentel, 23, is facing a slew of charges, including criminally negligent homicide, in connection with the death of 59-year-old Nasir Nadim. He was taken into custody nearly six months after the collision.
According to the NYPD, Nadim and the box truck were involved in a crash near State and Clinton streets on Jan. 23 around 1 p.m. Police say Nadim grabbed onto the truck's driver's side door and hung on as its alleged driver, Pimentel, continued northbound on Cadman Plaza West.
The 59-year-old fell onto the road about 600 feet away from the initial crash and was struck by the box truck.
Nadim suffered severe trauma to his body, according to police. Paramedics rushed him to New York-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital in critical condition, where he later died.
The NYPD says Pimentel took off after the crash and was arrested Wednesday morning.
He faces additional charges including manslaughter, assault, leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, reckless endangerment, reckless driving, traffic device violation and leaving the scene of an accident resulting in injury.
