Bronx BP Gibson joins seniors for free Thanksgiving luncheon at Golden Corral

The lunch consisted of a live performance as well, and Gibson says she hopes more events like these can help to combat food insecurity among older Bronx residents this holiday season.

Seniors in the Bronx got to celebrate Thanksgiving a few days early and were joined by Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson for a holiday luncheon at Golden Corral.
The lunch consisted of a live performance as well, and Gibson says she hopes more events like these can help to combat food insecurity among older Bronx residents this holiday season.
“During Thanksgiving and Christmas, many families don’t always get together,” said Gibson. “Some of our seniors are isolated. They may not have family members or relatives here in the Bronx and it's a time for them to come together and know that they're not alone."
While a lot of those in attendance came for the food, many seniors took to the floor, dancing with each other and enjoying each other’s company.
“If you’re a senior, that does not dedicate you to a rocking chair,” said Bernardine Harding, a senior who was enjoying her early Thanksgiving meal. “We have a lot of life, and we plan on living it.”
The Van Nest location of Golden Corral that hosted this festive luncheon will be open on Thanksgiving Day for all the seniors that missed out on today’s luncheon.
