Bronx's Muslim community begins Eid celebrations

Thousands of Muslims united at Macombs Dam Park Friday to mark the end of Ramadan and the beginning of Eid.
The Muslim faithful prayed across the street from Yankee Stadium in a new site that accommodated people from five different local mosques and represented more than two dozen countries from around the world.
The celebrations continued at Claremont Park where old friendships were rekindled and new ones were formed.
Islamic leaders say the Eid festivities mark a special calendar year because it fell on a Friday.
For many, the festivities will continue into the weekend where they will come together as families, enjoy good food and give thanks to their many blessings.
