Brooklyn?s Center Against Domestic Violence is going strong after 30 years of helping women escape abuse.
Denise White says she turned to the center in 1998 after leaving the Bedford-Stuyvesant home she shared with the father of her children. White says she took three of her seven children to a shelter run by the organization after her abuser got rough with her daughter. White had suffered in silence for 20 years before leaving for good.
The Center Against Domestic Violence provides housing and education to victims. Organizers also have an outreach program to teach middle and high school students how to recognize domestic violence.
