The Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce recognized 13 of the borough's most talented architects in its annual Building Brooklyn Awards.
Carlos Scissura, president of the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce, says that the buildings are chosen by a jury according to their architecture or renovations.
Scissura says that the buildings' exteriors are not the only qualities that the jury looks for in a winner.
They also consider whether the building has changed the landscape of the community by creating more neighborhood jobs and other promising opportunities.
While development is at times a controversial issue, the Chamber of Commerce says that the real estate business has helped the borough by creating job opportunities for residents.
