Construction on the Hamilton Avenue Bridge is causing headaches for some Brooklyn drivers.

The Department of Transportation is replacing the old bridge structure. The first phase will only replace half of the bridge and is scheduled to end by September, according to department officials. Completion of the whole project is set for the summer of 2008.

One commuter told News 12 Brooklyn he thinks driving near the bridge next week is going to be a ?disaster.?

Residents like John Russo are worried hassles caused by the construction won?t end in the near future.

?Usually construction projects just last and there's nothing after that,? Russo said.

Crews closed lanes and sidewalks on the bridge over the weekend. Only two lanes moving across the bridge in each direction remain open.

Traffic police said they are decreasing speed limits, but trying to keep traffic moving in spite of the closed lanes and slower speeds.
