A Brooklyn federal court judge denied bail Tuesday for the two former NYPD detectives dubbed "mafia cops."

The judge told Louis Eppolito and Stephen Caracappa that the evidence in the case pending against them was too strong to allow them to be released on bail. In April, the two former NYPD partners were convicted for their roles in eight mob murders. But in June, that ruling was overturned after the judge ruled the statute of limitations had passed on the slayings, which occurred between 1986 and 1990.

Eppolito and Caracappa will remain behind bars until their new trial, which is for lesser charges stemming from a 2005 drug sting in Las Vegas. If convicted on the drug charges, they face up to 40 years inprison.
