The mother of a 16-month-old who drowned in a bathtub pleaded not guilty Friday to second-degree manslaughter charges.
Prosecutors say Tracina Vaughn, 25, was not attentive to the needs of her children. They say she placed her 16-month-old and his older brother in a bathtub in November and told law enforcement officials that she filled the tub to the rim. Prosecutors did not give out details on what Vaughn may have been doing while her kids were in the tub. They add that she heard 16-month-old Dahquay crying and by the time she went to check on him he had drowned. Following the child's death, prosecutors discovered that Vaughn's file with the Administration for Children's Services (ACS) had some discrepancies. Dahquay and his brother had previously been taken away from their mother after her boyfriend placed the older child in a tub of scalding water.
In addition to manslaughter, Vaughn is charged with reckless endangerment and endangering the welfare of a child.
