The Brooklyn Museum is looking to tap into the borough's well of talented musicians for a new contest.
Museum officials are hoping to make the popular fountain outside the building even more interesting by holding an open call for artists. They are planning to have the water spurt from the ground in synch with music, and are looking for musicians to write original compositions.
Director of Public Programs Elizabeth Callihan says that many people enjoy sitting and relaxing near the fountain. She says a suggestion from a museum visitor sparked the idea for the contest.
Submissions will be accepted by the museum though July. On Aug. 14, the public will be invited to hear the final compositions performed live at the fountain, free of charge.
