Brooklyn school commemorates first graduating senior class

Ember Charter School for Mindful Education, Innovation, and Transformation focuses on helping students rise up against the challenges that many at-risk students face.

One Brooklyn charter high school celebrated its inaugural graduating senior class on Friday.
Ember Charter School for Mindful Education, Innovation, and Transformation focuses on helping students rise up against the challenges that many at-risk students face, helping them learn skills like self-efficacy, executive functioning and critical thinking skills.
"We're going to give you the tools and resources so you can independently get through all of this," said Ardnas Rashid, school leader. "It doesn't matter what your background is."
This graduating class is made up entirely of students of color, and staff say they couldn't be prouder.
"I'm just so happy to be a part of this great organization that helps us, Black and brown children," said staff member Patroushka Simon.
Friday's milestone event not only celebrates the graduating class, but all of their families who get to watch their children grow.
