A local artist's special project is lighting up the night sky in Brooklyn.
Brooklyn native Tom Fruin's colored water tower is the final piece of a three-part art series called "The Icons." The water tower is the latest installment of light-up sculptures that look to enhance the Brooklyn skyline.
The 14-foot tall structure is made entirely of recycled steel and Plexiglas and runs entirely on renewable solar energy. The piece can best be seen along the BQE near Brooklyn Bridge Park.
Fruin says he got the inspiration for his unique piece from all the other water towers he's seen throughout the borough. He says he wanted to jazz up a sculpture that truly symbolizes Brooklyn.
As for the other two pieces in the series, one is also a similar-style water tower that is located near the Manhattan Bridge, while the other is a Plexiglas house structure that can be seen along the water in Brooklyn Bridge Park.
