A group of Brooklyn volunteers could soon be working alongside authorities in the event a major disaster hit the borough.
During Community Emergency Response Training (CERT), instructors teach volunteers first aid and fire safety basics. Those who take a CERT class say the program also teaches them to stay calm and focused during an emergency.
Instructors say emergency training is important as the hurricane season approaches. Any residents who would want to participate in the CERT program should call 311 to enroll for the September sessions.
