Dozens of Brownsville residents gathered to say goodbye to Our Lady of Loreto church Saturday.
Community members mourned the loss of a building that's been part of the area since 1906, built by Italian immigrants who faced discrimination.
The rubble of what was once the church is all that is left behind to say goodbye to for those who visited.
The Catholic church on Sackman Street is expected to be turned into affordable housing.
There is no estimate for when the project is expected to be completed.
