A Brownsville nonprofit says it is close to shutting down due to lack of funding following the city’s budget cuts a few months ago.
The “Next Steps Program,” run by Riseboro, has been servicing Brownsville youth, ages 16-24, for the past five years and provides mentorship, guidance and many resources. But that could be coming to an end soon after Riseboro was notified back in August the city was doing budget cuts and closing the program down.
Riseboro tried to fund the program, but after weeks of trying, it became too costly.
Community leaders acknowledged they're working on finding another solution to keep this program going.
