A Brownsville woman says black mold spreading through her bathroom has gone unaddressed for years.

Jeannine Golson says she first noticed the mold two years ago. Since then, it has spread across her bathroom tiles and vanity.

Despite her efforts to clean and cover it, the problem continues to return.

“Imagine what it’s doing to my lungs,” Golson said. “We clean it, and it looks okay, but maybe a week or two later it comes right back.”

Golson underwent open-heart surgery and says the mold worsens her health issues, making her cough and causing shortness of breath.

She told News 12 she has filed multiple 311 complaints and approached her property manager, but nothing has been fixed. “I went to the property manager’s office around the corner. She slammed the door in my face,” Golson said.

News 12 went to the management office, but staff declined to answer questions. They referred us to PATHS Management in Manhattan, which has not responded.

“I just want them to fix my floor, fix this mold,” Golson said. “I don’t want to go back to the hospital.”

Golson says she’s now considering legal options.

The Department of Housing Preservation and Development told News 12 that a violation was issued in the unit, and that the landlords have until Oct. 30 to address the issue.
