Freezing temperatures have left some sidewalks in Bushwick dangerously icy, creating hazardous conditions for residents.

While main areas, like Wyckoff Avenue and nearby subway entrances, remain ice-free, residential streets look a lot different.

Patches of ice outside apartment buildings have turned short walks into risky ventures.

“It’s real irritating,” said one resident. “Obviously, people live there; they should take care of it.”

City law requires property owners to clear sidewalks in front of their buildings, but many have not. On Monday, the Department of Sanitation issued more than 2,800 citations to property owners for failing to clear snow and ice.

With freezing temperatures expected to continue, some residents worry conditions will worsen. “It’s unsafe to walk,” one said. “Sometimes I walk in the street if I see the sidewalk is too crowded with ice.”

A Department of Sanitation spokesperson said enforcement efforts will continue this week.
