City Councilman Fernando Cabrera introduced a bill yesterday to rename the Willis Avenue Bridge for former Mayor David Dinkins.
Dinkins served one term as mayor from 1990 to 1993. He was the first and only African-American to hold the office.
In a statement from Councilman Cabrera, he says, "We've had mayors that have totally forgotten about The Bronx, but he made it a point to plant the seeds so that we can have The Bronx that we have."
If approved, Dinkins will join former Mayor Ed Koch, who had the Queensboro Bridge renamed after him.
