Bronx residents are being warned to take precautions against bitter cold temperatures in order to prevent hypothermia and frostbite.
According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), the body loses heat faster than it can be produced during freezing temperatures. Experts say that everyone should stay bundled up.
The chilly weather is also making for a difficult commute. Drivers are being urged to allow extra time for cars to heat up and to watch for icy patches on the roads.
