Residents across The Bronx are sporting hooded sweatshirts in the wake of the shooting death of Florida teenager Trayvon Martin. Shezhad Nadeem, a sociology professor at Lehman College, says he understands the hoodie's symbolism, but that it obscures the true issue at hand. "The real pertinent issues are the facts that Trayvon Martin was killed, and that there wasn't a proper investigation," he says. The 17-year-old was killed last month by neighborhood watchman George Zimmerman, who claims he was acting in self-defense. Store owners say sweatshirts sales have increased since the night of the shooting.
