The latest homicides involving cab drivers have some local leaders calling for action.

A cab driver was shot to death in the Bronx Monday, and another driver was stabbed to death in Brooklyn last week.

Fernando Mateo, spokesperson for the New York State Taxi and Limo Drivers Confederation, says five cab drivers were killed in the past year and a half, after a federal judge ruled the NYPD's controversial stop-and-frisk program unconstitutional.

"Those criminals know that a cop can't search them, therefore they're carrying guns and knives and committing crimes at will. How long are we going to tolerate this?" says Mateo.

Mateo says the city needs to put the policing tactic back into action. But since coming into office, Mayor Bill de Blasio has consistently said that the he wants to reduce and reform stop-and-frisk, and that NYPD is doing a good job.

"The NYPD continues to drive down crime. We've had the safest summer in 20 years, that's a fact," says de Blasio.

A spokesperson for the mayor says that as stop-and-frisk has declined, so have murders and shootings.
