Surveillance cameras captured a man breaking into and stealing from a woman's car in Sheepshead Bay.
The footage shows a man crossing Avenue W and walking along East 19th Street before breaking into a parked car belonging to Clare Kopelakis. He can be seen rummaging through the vehicle for more than three minutes. Before that, he was spotted trying to open other car doors.
Kopelakis says the man made off with about $10 in cash and spare change. She says she fears that the suspect broke into her car using some sort of device, although she says there's a small chance she left her car door unlocked.
Police say they're investigating the incident.
Security experts say it's fairly easy to break into a car nowadays, with new technology sometimes making it as simple as pushing a button.
Guy Savino, of Brooklyn Car Audio and Security, advises installing an alarm system to stay on top of break-ins or damage to your car, adding GPS tracking to always know where your car is and using a dashboard camera to see video of who's around at all times. He says those measures could even lower your insurance premiums.
