Home prices in Canarsie are increasing faster than in any other neighborhood in Brooklyn, according to a recent study.
The study by HMS Associates found Canarsie home prices shot up nearly 18 percent in 2006 compared to 8 percent throughout the borough. The average price for a home in the neighborhood is more than $500,000. Brooklyn Heights came in second.
Canarsie homeowners say safety, convenience and tree-lined streets attracted them to the area. Some residents say they worry those assets will keep people coming to the neighborhood, causing Canarsie to feel more like suburbia.
