A crowd of over 50 people dressed in blue and white, Darrell Montgomery’s favorite colors, mourned his death Saturday, lighting candles and released balloons outside of the building where his body was found by police.

Montgomery's body was discovered in a garbage bin outside 557 East 21st St., according to police.

According to court documents, his roommate and alleged boyfriend, Christopher Moss, told police the two had been heavy methamphetamine users. He faces charges of concealing Montgomery’s body and assaulting police.

The cause of death has not yet been determined by the medical examiner.

Family members said Montgomery had grown apart from them in recent years. They say a small comfort is that initial reports claiming his body had been mutilated were confirmed to be false.
