An SUV crashed into a Bronx McDonald?s Tuesday morning, sending customers running and landing two people in the hospital.
Witnesses said the female driver of a black Mercedes SUV lost control of her car, jumped the sidewalk and crashed through the window of the fast-food restaurant, located on 1540 Westchester Ave. Some witnesses said the driver looked like she was talking on a cell phone at the time of the crash.
Police said one woman inside the McDonald?s was slightly injured in the accident. The driver also sustained minor injuries. Police said both were taken to a hospital and should be fine.
The crash took place near the stairway in the McDonald?s and avoided the section of the restaurant where most of the customers were eating. Still, smoke billowing from the accident caused everyone to evacuate.
Police, fire and emergency service units responded to the scene. Department of Buildings officials were also called in to ensure that the restaurant?s structure was not compromised.
