SEVERE THUNDERSTOM WATCH UNTIL 11 PM

Tonight: The Bronx faces the threat of strong to severe thunderstorms as a cold front approaches the region. Some storms could pack damaging wind gusts of up to 60 mph, frequent lightning and brief torrential downpours. Conditions may be similar to Friday's storms, which brought pockets of damaging winds across parts of the tri-state area. If thunder roars, head indoors immediately—lightning can strike well away from the storm itself. Strong winds could send unsecured outdoor items flying and bring down tree limbs. The storm threat should gradually fade after 9 p.m., though some Fourth of July celebrations and fireworks displays may still encounter weather-related delays.
Sunday: A break from the extreme heat arrives as temperatures return to the upper 80s. While still warm and humid, conditions will be noticeably more comfortable. A few scattered thunderstorms are possible during the afternoon and evening hours.
Monday and Beyond: Unsettled weather takes over to begin the new week. Showers and thunderstorms with periods of heavy rain are expected Monday, with additional chances for rain continuing into the middle of the week. While the wet weather may impact commutes and outdoor plans, the rainfall will help ease the region's developing dryness. Stay with News 12 for the latest forecast updates, watches and warnings.
