Just a few months after news that a Clinton Hill grocery store is closing, the city has approved demolition plans.

In February, employees and shoppers of the Key Food found out the store was closing. As News 12 has reported, the property is expected to be turned into a high-rise residence. Public Advocate Letitia James says losing the grocery store will impact the area's elderly population.

The landlord says construction plans do include retail space on the ground floor. However, he does not know what stores would occupy the building. The group that purchased the property has said it would like to keep the grocery store on the ground floor, if possible, but that the entire project is still in the planning stages.

Once the Key Food is closed, the nearest grocery store is a C-Town on Taaffe Place and Dekalb Avenue.
