A City Council member is speaking out against a police official?s conduct during a demonstration of Jewish people.
Councilman Simcha Felder (D-Brooklyn) said on Wednesday that a high-ranking police officer cursed at the Jewish crowd and told other cops to ?get the Jews out of here.? The police chief acknowledges he used inappropriate language and says he was trying to get control of the situation in front of the 66th Precinct.
Residents took to the streets Tuesday after they say police officers pushed 75-year-old Arthur Schick against a car and twisted his arms. Police deny mistreating Schick. They say he was arrested after refusing to take his ticket for talking on his cell phone while driving and resisting arrest. Police confirmed arresting two other people for interfering with the initial arrest.
All three men have been charged with disorderly conduct. Schick was also charged with unauthorized use of a cell phone and obstructing government administration. Local leaders in the community are calling the demonstration a tragedy and want a full investigation on behalf of both parties involved.
