The city's Department of Transportation encouraged all New York City students to walk and bike to school in an effort to get kids active on National Bike to School Day on Wednesday.

Organizers of the city's Bike Bus are calling all students and their parents to get on wheels and ride along protected bike lanes to get to school.

There are many stops along the protected route for students to jump in and ride safely to their destination.

While the initiative is to highlight National Bike to School Day, the DOT says this is an ongoing effort to encourage kids to start cycling, get their daily exercise and embrace an environmentally friendly mode of transportation.

You can head over to the city’s Bike Bus website for more details.
