The City wants to help cash-strapped New Yorkers get money back during tax time.
The city is launching its sixth annual Earned Income Tax Credit campaign. Brooklyn residents who earn less than $40,000 annually may be eligible for up to $6,000 back through the EITC.
Tax filers are urged to contact the city's free 311 information line for detailed eligibility information and locations of free tax filing sites. The EITC information is being offered in 12 languages to help all New Yorkers benefit from the credit.
In 2007, New Yorkers claimed nearly $2 billion in the tax credit, which includes federal, state and city money.
